Seeing oneself as special. Hiding emotional and personal vulnerability. Self-centeredness, vanity, arrogance.

The theory and research behind the TAW began 2500 years ago when the Persian philosopher Zoroaster mentioned this same set of eight traits as causes for human illness and health.  They were popular 2000 years ago in Egypt, and then 1500 years ago they were canonized by Pope Gregory as the seven deadly sins (he left out the issue of honesty).  Until Freud and the medical model came along, nearly all the life coaching and guidance counseling in the Western world was based on the traditional wisdom of these eight sets of positive and negative attitudes. Proof that these traits do indeed effect mental, emotional, physical, and relational wellbeing (wholistic health) has more recently been established by a doctoral dissertation, several journal articles, and ten years of international research.  Wording for the test items and this feedback sheet came with input from over a dozen well-published professors of psychology and theology, and was then fine-tuned by statistical validation.  Your taking this test is contributing to the ongoing research about the causes and effects of wholistic health.  To fight illness and promote health, the TAW will be available free to anyone, anonymously, on this website soon.

Look at the eight resources listed down the center column on the other side of this sheet.  They arise naturally from several sources, from your internal reactions to significant others, to our society, and most people believe, to spiritual powers of good and evil which influence us all.  Your wellbeing requires you to be careful how you refresh your capacities for concern, energy, and bodily health, because some methods are more draining than inspiring.  Likewise, you need to consider whose truth, respect, anger, money, and sexual energy you are absorbing, because you are picking up their values, beliefs, and lifestyles in the process.  Both personal wellness and illness, both fruits of the spirit and fruits of the flesh, are powerfully and yet subtly contagious.

Having looked at what comes into you, now consider what comes out of you.  These are the strengths and weaknesses listed in the columns on the left and right.  To reduce your harmful words and actions on the left, consider how harmful these habits are to yourself and others.  Then try to redirect your resources into more healthy behaviors, the better choices listed on the right.  Consider the benefit to yourself and others that developing these healthy habits could make.  Pray about it, and talk about it to your family and friends.  If necessary, discuss them with a pastor or counselor, asking them and others to help you make healthy changes in your life.  Their life stories and personal examples, their criticism and praise, their prayers and people, their companionship and protection, their suggested new insights and solutions can all help to bring health and healing into your life.  That’s how we all get healthy and find new life.
